That was my best find to date - an 1843 small D $5.00 gold piece. You see, Dahlonega, Georgia was home to a U.S. mint from 1838 to 1861, and only minted gold coins. It was a small mint and ceased operation after the Civil War was over, so these coins are pretty rare.

The first coin was an 1853 seated half dollar (hold by in XF condition). My second find was a 1823 dime in good condition. My third and fourth find were 2 large cents dated 1850 (VF condition but corroded) and 1853 (also fine condition but corroded).

Impressive Old Piece of Eight Dates Back To The Early 1800's. I have had a beginner Bounty Hunter Detector for several years
and hunted with it infrequently until about six months ago.
I then realized, that I lived and worked in an area that had
some of the earliest settlements in Indiana, where there could
be some good potential for old coins. Click Here To Read More. |

CSA Belt Buckle found w/ Bounty Hunter IV I
recently bought a Bounty Hunter Tracker lV from Kellyco and
this was the first metal detector I have ever used.
It works very good even though I am still learning. I went
out detecting today for the second time in my life and brought
home the most sought after item. Click Here To Read More. |

A Solid Tone Reveals an 1851 Three Cent Silver Piece. On 1/4/05, a friend, Ron T. of Shanksville, PA. also a Bounty Hunter detectorist suggested we try relic hunting in a corn field. Up until now I hunted in yards and local parks so I was curious how this would work. We were hunting for about 15 minutes when I got a solid tone. Upon pinpointing the target I found a small circular piece of metal, it was paper thin and much smaller than a dime. At first I thought it was a machine punch out. I looked at it a little bit longer and Ron yelled over asking what I had found. Click Here To Read More.
