Danish Coin Found With Excalibur 1000!
The ground conditions at the beach that day were black sand. I had been out just a couple of hours and had dug quite a few coins and a couple rings. Then, with the discrimination set at 3 and automatic sensitivity on, I found this 1628, 6 (VI) Danish Skilling buried about 8” down.

Well...I decided I would really put the 10 x 12 SEF coil to the test today. I took it to 3 small parks that I have pounded into submission with other coils...just to see how good it really is. My final impression....It is a deep coin killer.

After having searched for two hours and not finding anything significant, I got a good signal. About 8" down I found my favorite find to date - a Civil War button and the name plate for "Captain James Hill" of the Iowa Infantry. Thanks to the local historical society I was able to identify the plate and button from the Civil War era, and I am positive that both were his, since this was his house that he built and lived in.

So you can imagine how surprised and elated I was to dig 10" into dry, hard ground and pull out a Confederate CS tongue belt buckle! I immediately knew what it was from my prior research into Civil War relics, and in the area I found several Confederate States buttons. No one was with me for this great find, so I immediately called a relic hunting buddy of mine by cellphone to share the good news. I've found Civil War bullets at this site before,

Call it beginner's luck, but young Garrett B. calls it the find of a lifetime. New to the hobby of treasure-hunting, this Arizona youth recently joined his grandfather Jim in a search for gold. As fate would have it, he found his first gold on that hunt. The metal detector he was using was - appropriately enough - a Garrett ACE 250. .

I thought I'd let you folks see what I have done in my first 10 months in the hobby using an ACE 250. Even though by most people's standards I am still in the "beginner" phase of this hobby, I pretty much attacked it as I do all things I am passionate about .

I've been hunting about 37 years and I recently went to a field where an open hunt was held about 8 years ago. I've hunted the site with one of your competitor's metal detectors, a $900 unit, and only found several dimes, so I figured the field was about hunted out.

About two weeks after purchasing the ACE 250, I headed to the beach to hunt. Not long after, I got a signal that hit just below the nickel slot, so I decided to dig. In the second trowel of sand, out falls a white ring!
Later that week, I took it to a jeweler and they appraised it between...

While her mom was registering her at school, my daughter Kayleigh and I took her Garrett ACE 150 to have a look at the woodchips in the playground area. I was swinging on the swing and Kayleigh came walking over to me with a big smile. She handed me a ring. At first, I thought it was a kid's play ring but it said 10K on the inside and had a diamond chip in it!!

I haven't used it in areas that could yield more lucrative finds, but based on the immediate success I've had with lost change in my yard, you can bet I'll be putting the ACE 150 to better use. I haven't given up on finding that buried pirate treasure of my childhood dreams. And even if I never find it, I'll have fun looking for it with my ACE 150.

did and subsequently purchased (2) GTI 2500 units.

I got a strong signal and after digging about 5” deep a silver buckle popped out. I didn’t even clean the mud off until I got home, but when I did I recognized it right away. I cleaned it under running water and saw a beautiful, small silver shoe buckle that was used from 1650 to 1720. The chape and tongue design are noted in several reference books as those of the Tudor-Georgian period. Click Here To Read More. |

Summer is Finally Here!
What a long wait. There was no Spring here in the East. The first time I went to do some water hunting, I traveled over 50 miles to find the lake still frozen. Luckily I had a backup lake not far away that was not frozen.

I was almost ready to give up when out popped the only gold coin ever produced in Australia - a beautiful, rare, 1884 gold sovereign in VF or XF condition. With a young (cute) Queen Victoria on one side and St. George slaying a dragon on the other, this coin has almost no wear and a few tiny spots have the original luster on the gold. I dug down about 10 inches into the hard ground and saw my first Civil War relic - a U.S. buckle plate! I knew what it was immediately, and you can only imagine how pumped I was. The first person I told was my wife, and while I don't know the value of it and haven't found another Civil War relic at the site since, I will always consider it my favorite find to date. I was so far from help, driving an Isuzu 4x4 into grass over a foot deep when I began to have ignition problems. I had to remove the points and wouldn't you know it, I lost the little screw that held the things all together. It was a bummer of the worst kind, and both me and that screw were no where to be found by anyone. Click Here To Read More. |

I really enjoyed using it because it is so lightweight. I found a few coins and also a necklace, (I don't think it is real) but a nice start anyway. It seemed to penetrate very deep as far as I could tell. River hunting is not at all like the ocean where your hole fills in right away. This is why I know it gave good depth.

The first day with the new rig I located my first palisite meteorite, HALLELUJAH! It was 3 feet deep and weighed 11 pounds. The next morning I found an iron meteorite weighing 9 pounds in a wheat field 30 inches deep. The following day was Sunday so I did not look. On Monday my Mojo really started working. I heard a clear strong signal over my headphones. This was the best signal yet. Can it be another disk pan?

Using the pinpoint feature on the Explorer and my trusty brass coin probe, I quickly located the target at about 6 inches. Carefully digging a plug to retrieve the target, I soon spotted a quick glimpse of silver in the hole. After a few handfuls of mud were removed, I knew I had a quarter-sized object covered with dirt in my hand. To my very pleasant surprise, I wiped away the dirt to uncover a Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar. Click Here To Read More. |

Three Minnesota Landscape workers struck it rich on a job recently when they uncovered about 375 U.S. coins dated 1822 to 1930 cached beneath a concrete wall they were removing. One of the workers was removing pieces of concrete with a tractor, when he noticed a coin, He investigated and soon "started finding 'pennies' and more 'pennies.'" A third worker joined in the dig and came up with a leather pouch containing a California territorial gold coin.
Local residents recall a story of an old recluse who once lived on the property where the landscaping was being done, and speculated that he burried the coins shortly after the bank crisis at the beginning of the Great Depression. A Minnesota Attorney said that ownership of the coins, valued at more than $5,000.00, will be disputed between the owner of the land and the men who found them, if the true owner cannot be located after a reasonably diligent effort.
