Danish Coin Found With Excalibur 1000

I started the fall hunting season off right while on the North Carolina Outer Banks. The wind was blowing 20 to 25mph to the North East and this was my first time hunting this section of the beach.

I’m a Magistrate in the area and I've been metal detecting since 1975. I don't remember what got me into the hobby of metal detecting, but my first detector was a Garrett, then I used a Pillar-1 Real, then two Fishers, a CZ-5 and a CZ-70.

I was on the beach that day with the Excalibur 1000 that I've had since January 2008. . I bought it after selling off a few gold rings.

The ground conditions at the beach that day were black sand. I had been out just a couple of hours and had dug quite a few coins and a couple rings. Then, with the discrimination set at 3 and automatic sensitivity on, I found this 1628, 6 (VI) Danish Skilling buried about 8” down. When I realized what it was I felt super. I couldn't believe how good the condition was and that I could read the date so well.

The first people I told about it were the two guys I was hunting with when we got back to the truck. I've found Reales before and a couple of cobbs. But I identified the Danish Skilling with a coin book and the internet and to me it's very valuable because it's the oldest coin I've found.
