What a Surprise

Been Coin hunting for over 34 years and have found many old coins but had never been able to find a Seated Liberty quarter until this past weekend. Was hunting a old closed down golf course that dates back to 1922 and came across a 6 inch deep tire track completely filled with water.

One of the Best Adventures to Date

I answered a call from Gerry around dinner time. He asked if I wanted to go with him and a few friends detecting and old mining town. I knew I really couldn’t go, work was pilling up deadlines were looming, I said, “I will be at your house at 4 am.” As I hung up the phone I thought here is a chance to get out and detect with some guys who know what they are doing. I had purchased my E-TRAC less than a year ago and had moderate success with it, a series of short hunts around town finding a few silvers and a handful of wheat pennies. I didn’t have the time this summer to hunt too seriously. I couldn’t pass this ...

Trowbridge and District Metal Detecting Club to the Rescue

This is just my second week as Chairman of the club and on Thursday 12th April 2012 I received an email from a lady named Toni, who lives in the Pewsey area of Wiltshire. The contents in her short explanation really touched my feelings as she explained she needed help to find her lost wedding ring.

Good Hunt With Some Great History

I'm still learning my E-TRAC. A friend and I decided to hunt an older area in Northern California one Sunday afternoon. I ended up with only three old coins - 1937S wheatie, an 1886 Indian head, and a 1909 "vertical S" wheatie. Not bad.

What I lacked in coins, I made up for in relics. The first relic I recovered was an 1880's political button, on the front it says: PUBLIC OFFICE IS A PUBLIC TRUST "84-86" around a horseshoe with initials in the center of CG. My next find was a nice gold plated Victorian ladies pendant with stones.

I Owe It All To This E-TRAC

I went to a field that I have visited in the past with some excellent success. Though when I do hit this field, it is always very hit or miss. Good targets are slim but usually very old when I do find them. So on a lunch break last week I tried a new spot in the field.

Over Five Hundred Coins

I have been metal detecting for over thirty years using all different brands of detectors and in June of 2011 I purchased my Minelab E-TRAC. After a few months of in the field training with it I obtained permission to hunt down a now closed down golf course that dates back to the earlu 1900's. With my E-TRAC in hand I started out and in a five month period hunting on weekends I have been able to locate over five hundred coins which sixty seven of them are silver. The E-TRAC can really go get the silver. Thank you Minelab.

Did I Mention I Love My E-TRAC

I am a regular park hunter because to be honest I am a busy working Dad with a young child and just don't have time for long far away hunts. I decided to hit one of my tot lots that has produced absolutely NOTHING for years. I am not sure why I even go there other than the joy of hunt. In the past I had hunted the park hard with my other detector but upgraded to an E-TRAC about a year ago.
