Surprise in the Park

02/21/16

One afternoon this past July (2014) I grabbed my V3i and decided to go out for an evening hunt. My wife had suggested 3 or 4 times to try this little park not far from our house. I never gave it much thought because I knew the park was not that old and I try to find older places to hunt. Not having too much time I decided to give it a shot. I had only been detecting about 20 feet when I got a good signal at 4" to 5" deep, so I began to cut slightly deeper and out popped this shiny silver coin! It was an 1856 Liberty half dollar and it was in excellent condition! I could not believe it! After doing a little more detecting, I determined that there must have been and old home there at one time. Needless to say that made my evening and thought, this couldn't get any better. I was wrong. When I got home I looked up the value of the coin and found out that this coin was a special "S" minted and that made it worth 10 times as much as the other 2 coins minted the same year! What a bonus to an already great find. Thank you White's Electronics for a great metal detector!
