The gold coin that wasn't!

I think the Coin Gods are mad at me. Last weekend I found this Japanese 5 Yen coin about 8 inches down in a field outside of Tehachapi California. While it was still in the ground it sure looked like gold to me. I thought I read "Retirement" all over it. The photo was taken after I cleaned it up. Can anybody read the date? All of the other coins in the same area were from the 1970s and 1980s. My detector is a Garrett ACE 350 with a Garrett Pro Pointer for close in work.
