3 Cent Silver Find With My V3i
02/21/16

I was hunting a pretty hard hit civil war winter encampment with some of my hunting buddies in Stafford county VA. My one partner found a couple button backs in a small area and called over the rest of us. So we all ascended on the area and began to hunt there. I kept digging little pieces of brass while the others kept digging a couple more buttons and backs.

Then I finally got a real good signal showing 6 inches so I dug away. I finally got the target out of the hole and had to do a fair bit of searching with my pinpointer to locate this small target. Finally I got this dirt covered disk and thought it was the piece off a knapsack hook.

Then I took one swipe across the surface and out popped the silver C and Roman numeral III. I knew immediately that I had dug an 1852 silver three cent piece. What made this find even more special was that it was my first silver coin and a three cent piece as well a coin that was on my bucket list to dig someday. For those that are familiar with the three cent piece it is one very tiny coin and the V3i picked it up with ease at depth. The V3i continues to amaze me.
