A Long Way From Home

I had a couple of detecting missions lined up for the day. The first one was a swimming hole hunt with the Excalibur 800 which turned up one silver ring and just a few old coins, fun none the less. The second mission was to search a domain in a port town not far from where I live with the E-TRAC.

As it was getting late I only had an hour or two and the detecting proved difficult to say the least. The domain must have been back filled with rubbish that contained a huge amount of iron. I run a fairly tight pattern to reject iron so the threshold was mostly nulling out. I think one of the strengths of the E-TRAC is it can find nonferrous targets in these challenging environments even with the stock coil.

I was digging all the iffy but obvious grunts and squeaks with good result. I turned an assortment of old New Zealand coins, one trade token from 1903 and an American “Walking Liberty Half Dollar” with an S obverse mint mark.
