Amazing and Rare Find With My CTX 3030

02/21/16

I recently upgraded to the new CTX 3030 as reviews on this new detector seemed almost too good to be true, but I brought one anyway.

Yesterday I went on my first 'serious' club dig in Cambridgeshire, UK with a group of friends. The area of field, was, I was very thin on finds, because it had been detected many times before and the area was pretty large, so most detectorists operated there 'low and slow' routine.

Within about 5 minutes of detecting on the field I cam across some really nice finds including a complete Crotal Bell, Roman belt end and other artefacts. Others on the dig had not found anything, indeed, so I can test the real power of the CTX 3030 I decided to follow the same route as the others on the field.
[split]
Success again! I found a number of Roman coins, lead weights, the finds kept on coming. The GPS feature really helped too, as it allowed me to plan my day, adding the waypoints via Google Earth, and I did not have to rely on tatty map printouts. It was raining anyway, so printed maps would have been useless, but being that the CTX 3030 is waterproof thats another weight of my mind.

The icing on the cake for the detecting day, was for me my greatest find to date, and also quiet rare in the UK. From a depth of around 30cm I detected and found a really nice condition Edward 1st hammered coin, produced in around 1302. It was rare because this particular Edward 1st coin was minted around 400 miles away, across the water in Dublin, Ireland.

I really cannot thank Minelab enough for producing an outstanding product. The CTX 3030 inspires total confidence in such that if it comes up with a good target ID, you dig. There are no ifs or buts.

Thanks again.
