Barber Dime Trio

02/21/16

I have been detecting for over 35 years, and only have had about a dozen detectors, but have had the greatest service, and best finds from the 6 White's detectors, I have owned. Presently I have 3 detectors, a White's Coinmaster Classic III, an IDX, and I bought a new M6, with an extra 5.3 Eclipse coil in January of this year.

Since I have bought my M6, I have found my oldest coin with it, a 1875 Seated half and also a 1914 Barber quarter.(Pictured in the June 2007 stories) They were found in an old WW1 training camp. The 3 Barber dimes pictured here were found in the old camp that had over 30,000 soldiers go through it, in 1917-1919. When I first started detecting years ago, I was told by a few "seasoned metal detector users", that this area was a "hunted out" area and no more old coins were to be found.

I dug the 1899 Barber Dime, and the 1907 Barber Dime in the middle of November 2007, and the 1903 Barber Dime, was dug a few months ago, in the same area. Those "seasoned detector users" must not have been using White's detectors, back then.
