Ring belongs to John F. Cassano who was born and raised in Livingston Manor, NY. He graduated from Fordham University in June 1963 with a B.S. degree in Business Adminstration. He was commissioned an ensign in the US Navy on June 19, 1964 upon completion of OCS. He served as a communications officer aboard the USS Guadalcanal and the USS Askari, (a Landing Craft Repair Ship) during his time in the Navy. While on the Guadalcanal and in San Juan for military exercises in 1964, John lost his Fordham University ring. Steve found the ring on March 24, 2013 in about three feet of water shortly before his return to the US mainland after a 3-year assignment in Puerto Rico. Based on the name inscribed in the ring, Steve was able to identify John as the owner and found to his surprise that they only lived 26 miles from each other outside of Tampa, Florida. The ring was returned to its rightful owner on April 10, 2016 after an absence of approximately 52 years.
