Diamonds and Rust

My name is Cliff, I live in Rockport, Texas. I have been in this hobby since the year 2000.

My hunting partner wanted to go and hunt the beach in the sand at Port Aransas, Texas which is only 20 miles from home. At this time, I only had 1 metal detector a Garrett GTA 750 and I love this machine even today. I now own 3 metal detectors a Tesoro and a Minelab Excalibur II.

My partner wanted to hunt the wet sand, but I could not with my Garrett. I told my partner I would go over the dunes and hunt the dry sand. So we split up and I went over the dunes.

I started finding nails and dimes and quarters and just before I got to a boardwalk I got a nickel reading. I scooped up a load of sand and sifted it quickly and there in my scoop was a gold ring with a big diamond looking stone on it.

I took it to my partner and he thought it was costume jewelry. The next day I took it to a jeweler in town to see if it was real and he said yes it is a real diamond. I then asked if he could identify the owner and he said no but that it looks brand new.

He appraised it at $7,260.00. My best find, even today with other detectors my Garrett 750 has found a lot of rings and coins and tokens worth a lot of money but those are for future stories.
