Experience Pays Off

I was out looking for places to detect this past winter when I came upon a very old house in my town that was burnt down and demolished to make way for a new shopping center. I ask permission and was only granted one day to hunt it. I used my trusty V3i and set up a program that was sure to get me the best items in the quickest time.

I got quite a few old coins and some other relics when I came across a signal that caught my attention. In any other situation, I would think it was a soda can or something like that, but given the depth of my target and the size of it (thanks to the sizing capability’s on the V3i!) I decided to dig it up. WOW, was I glad I did! I have been to the southern states hunting for civil war relics before but never did I think I would find such a nice one right here in Indiana! I am told it is a model 1851 officers buckle.

I have been hunting a long time and I have to admit, with any other detector here in Indiana, I more than likely would have passed on this thinking it was junk. But with my experience, and the great information at my fingertips with the V3i, I was able to save this piece of history for people to enjoy. Who knows what else lies there in that ground. As I am writing this, they have begun to start the paving process on that property. I just can't wait each and every time I go out with my V3i!!
