Finds of a Junior Detectorist
02/21/16

My name is Max, I am 11 years old and I developed an interest in metal detecting about two years ago. I purchased my first metal detector with my Christmas money, a Minelab X-TERRA 705. On my first outing with my dad, he took me to a new spot. I had high expectations for this spot as it is very old. As I stepped out the car, I got a nice signal; I dug it and saw a small silver coin. I picked it up and it turned out to be a 1909 English threepence.

I walked about five steps and got a solid 42 signal, I dug it and spotted a big copper coin, after a clean I realized it was a 1952 Australian penny. Another few steps and out popped an old toy gun. As dad informed me that it was time to go home, I asked him if I was allowed to dig one more signal, luckily he said yes. I got a signal, dug it up and another silver coin popped out, slightly larger than the threepence. After cleaning it I started shaking as it was my first 1800s coin, an 1891 English sixpence! I love my new detector and I am looking forward to going out again. Thanks Minelab!
