Hyde Manor Metal Detecting Find

Published by Daniel C. on 02/09/17

One of the oldest and longest owned resorts in America, the Hyde Manor of Vermont holds many treasures. Since its eventual closure in the late 1970’s, this area has been detected several times by several people. This was possibly Green Mountain Diggers fifth time digging up the overgrown extinct golf course, and when I swung my Garrett ATPro and that sweet sound of silver nectar rang, it was too good to be true. Four inches down and way too loud, I never expected to pop that plug and a 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar to appear. I lost my head. Unbelievable to think this coin had been in the ground for over a hundred and thirty-five years, sitting right in the middle of a field we had detected several times. Once in a lifetime find for me, and it just goes to show that even when you think you’ve dug it all, there is always more treasure to be found. Thanks for sharing our finds and let’s make 2017 the best year ever. Good Luck everybody!
