M6 Finds a 1916-D Mercury Dimes
02/21/16

I went over to see my daughter that lives in a small town 12 miles from me, and I saw they had torn down a two story house next door to the church. They were in the process of tearing up the sidewalk to make a parking lot for the church, so I stopped and asked if I could hunt the area. They called the mayor and said he would be over in a little bit, while waiting for him, I was just looking around. I saw a silver dime lying on top of the ground and I picked it up started to look at it and the mayor drove up.

I asked him if I could hunt and he said one of the church members said something about doing that, he said he would give him first chance and would call me later to let me know if I can hunt it. I thanked him and went on down to my daughters to clean up the silver dime I found. I went to the sink and cleaned the dirt off it and that is when I almost had a heart attack!! 1916-D mercury that’s a first major key coin for me, oh yes, it only took me 50 years of detecting to eye ball find this one, lol.

The mayor called me on Saturday the 27th and told me the church member had hunted it and it was ok to hunt it now. I packed up my M6 and went, hunted for about an hour and ½. I found 3 Indian head cents 1893,1896 and 1908, the 08 was not an S mint, also found 2 new penny’s. I am not going to be able to hunt it again as they are hauling in gravel for the parking lot, but I am happy with my take on what I did find, eyeball find and my M6 detector finds. I use the M6 with a 6x10 DD and a DX1 probe, and I love it.
