Last month I decided to upgrade my 5900 to a MXT after seeing them out dig any other machine at a sponsored hunt I participate in. While waiting for it to arrive from my dealer I used my wife's M6 several times. One afternoon I got a nice signal that rang up +60. After pulling a 6" and still getting a great signal I continued digging thinking I had a belt buckle. After digging over two feet down I started to get some iron coloration in the dirt and finally scraped metal at about 2.5 feet. As I pulled handfuls of dirt away from the target started taking a round shape. I tugged it out of the ground and excitedly looked it over for a fuse to see if it was live. [split] Not locating a fuse I knew right away that I had a 12lb solid shot. The first one I had seen dug on the property. I cleaned it up and my aunt and I are going to have it put on display at a small local museum. Yesterday evening I was out with my new MXT and after a couple hours with only a couple bits of lead to show for it I started swinging for home. Between a huge oak tree and a small creek I got decent but scratchy signal. After digging over a foot down I started thinking that I might have another artillery piece. After a foot and a half of our nasty Virginia red clay I hit some gray clay that looked great for pottery but smelled something awful because of the stream I was beside. Right after I hit the clay I started to see something but the coloration of the clay made it look funny. But amazingly it started to take a nice round shape again! I had dug my second cannonball in 6 weeks. Both being 12lb solid shots. The latest one even has a mold seam on it which makes it undeniably confederate. The M6 and MXT are two great relic machines and I'm looking forward to years of fun with them. Included are pictures of the both balls still in the hole and a picture of me holding the second one.
