MXT is a Civil War Magnet

Published by Jessica M. on 02/21/16

The ring with the fox/dog head is my favorite. It's made from lead/pewter and found near a Union Civil War camp. I'd love to claim it as carved from a bullet but I'm not quite sure as there appears to be the slightest trace of plating on the bottom. The remainder of the items in the display box are a Williams cleaner, a .58 minie, an eagle "I" cuff infantry button and a 1909 Barber quarter (obviously not Civil War). All dug from the same camp area in Northern Virginia. Standalone items in just dug condition are mostly shrapnel from CS Read rounds, a gun tool in the upper left, a .58 fired and what I believe to be a screw from a musket butt plate. These items were found during two different hunts, same relative are and battle located in Central VA. Last photo is four Spencer cartridges (Union cavalry carbine) and a button dug south of Richmond, VA. The button came from an area most likely frequented by Confederates but I can't definitively claim it as CS. The cartridges were found about a 1/2 mile away on the same property in a skirmish area. All are recent finds on private property with permission using a White's MXT.
