I am new to the whole metal detecting scene. A couple friends of mine were always talking about what they found and how much fun they were having, so I decided to buy a White’s MXT since it’s what they had and join them. I starting detecting with them every Sunday morning but was having trouble finding anything. I was digging everything but all was junk till one night we were digging at an 1800's farm house. We split up the yard and started detecting. My buddy found a silver quarter and he asked if I found anything, I told him I didn't, so he decided to swap sides of the yard with me because he was finding coins and wanted me to find some also. Well he came across a good hit (but did not dig it because he wanted me to hear the tones that a good hit would sound like) and said to me that I needed to check this one spot again and this time pay attention to the tone and numbers. As I was swinging I was like ok that is a nice clean tone and shortened up my swings and coin checked it, pin pointed it at about 5"s. I ended up digging an 1847 Braided Hair Large Cent. It looked to me in excellent condition. It looked like it was dropped the same year it was minted. This was my first coin I have found with them and was an awesome feeling pulling that out of the ground. Thanks to the MXT and its user friendly programing I have been able to find more things where ever we go.
