As the end of the hunting season nears here in the Northeast, and not getting out enough this summer, this year wasn't a very productive hunting season for me. Only finding a couple of silver coins, a hand full of wheat-backs, and lots of clad and coins and Lincoln penny’s, I had the opportunity to get out with three of our club members to a spot in Westchester County N.Y. I grabbed my MXT, and headed out to meet the guy's. We all met about 9:00 AM Sat morning at the spot and started our hunting. As the day progressed it seemed the other three guys were digging a lot more than I, but I hunted on finding a couple of Lincoln’s and a 1953 A.S.P.C.A dog tag and a yet unidentified round disk. [split] First I heard Dan say he just pulled up a Mercury dime, then Tony did too, I know Jess also hit some silver himself. Next I pulled up the front face of an old heart shaped padlock, but not much else, then Dan hit a nice Standing Liberty Quarter. After about four hours in this one area we decided to move down to another area on the property. No sooner than we did Dan hit on an Indian head penny shortly after Tony picked up on a buffalo nickel and Dan another standing liberty quarter. By this time I was getting a little discouraged and was about to call it quits for the day. Good thing I kept going because as I made my next swing with my MXT I got an extremely loud hit and dug down only 4 inches and found my first Barber Half Dollar, a real nice 1907. I checked the hole and moved on. On my next swing about 8 inches from my last find I got a hit that showed a screw top at 3 inches but I dug it any way and pulled up a 1904 Indian head penny. We stayed about another hour with not much more luck, but we all had some great finds and a great day of hunting.
