Three E-TRAC's = Five Large Cents

02/21/16

My nephew Paul invited me and his brother Bill to hunt a field site where an old house once stood. My wife Diane was trying out her new X-TERRA 705 and Bill’s young daughter Eloise was there observing. We had been hunting about an hour turning up some old spoons, square nails and typical farm relics when I got a very solid signal. Using my field shovel I turned over the target spot and pinpointed the target, it was a Large Cent, not just any Large Cent but one dated 1818! The condition on this coin was amazing, a beautiful green patina with a full liberty visible. The others gathered round to see my find and Bill’s young daughter looked over my shoulder and exclaimed, “It says 1818 is that old?” We all got a chuckle from that!

Paul then hit a hot streak finding three more Large Cents in a row, an 1828, 1831 and 1844. Bill then had his find a nice 1833 Large Cent. The condition on these coins is amazing, all full Liberty and very detailed. After cleaning up with just a bit of soap and water the 1818’s detail was so fine you can see the individual hair strands in the Matron’s Head hair. A wonderful day of hunting that was successful because of the E-TRAC’s ability to find good targets in an iron laden site. Thanks Minelab!
