<p><strong>I wanted to share with you a little about my latest detecting trip.</strong> I had the opportunity to take my wife and five children on a camping trip here in central Oregon to a friend's ranch it is a very large and historical ranch that has seen a lot of Oregon's founding history take place.</p> <p>We camped there for 4 days, between taking the boys fishing and some hiking and camp cooking I was able to get some detecting in. I use the new V3 and a few weeks ago got the I update. I absolutely love the new features. I was very disappointed when in all the hurry of getting packed I somehow forgot my 10" coil and all I had was my small 4x6" coil.</p> [split] <p>There was nothing I could do about it so I used what I had. It worked very well as you can see by the pictures. I was still able to pull out one of the minnie balls at 7". The camp I was able to detect at was a Cavalry camp in the 1860's so it was all civil war era artifacts, these finds are probably common back East but here in Oregon they are few and far between.</p> <p>I was able to find 3 Eagle buttons, 5 minnie balls several pistol balls in tree stumps, one of the minnie balls I found in an old dead snag even has cloth fiber embedded in the lead, it makes one wonder if it shot someone before it hit the tree and took a piece of shirt with it? My favorite finds were the 2 parts of the bugle hat pin when put together make a complete artifact. The Buckle was found by the ranch formans 16 year old son while digging a trench by hand, it is very nice.</p> <p>He sent it home with me to add to the display case I am making, because of the historical nature of these finds I will be donating them back to the ranch so that other guests will be able to enjoy them as well, it has also ensured that I will continue to have access to this wonderful ranch and its many detecting opportunities in the future.
