[slpit]<strong>I had always wanted to get into metal detecting but it wasn't until two years ago -- when I found the deal of a lifetime at an estate sale: two perfectly functioning XLTs for $50 -- that I finally got into the hobby.</strong> I did well with the XLTs and was very impressed with the customer service offered by White's and the passionate following that the brand has on the forums. Thus, when it came time for me to upgrade my detector, it was a no-brainer. I was sticking with White's. I chose the VX3 and got a 10x6 DD coil to go along with it. I have made some very good finds with the VX3/6x10 combo including a giant 12-gram 14k gold ring; a UC Santa Cruz class ring (which I'm in the process of returning to its owner); and a few silver coins (mostly Mercury dimes). But none of that prepared me for the excitement I felt when my oldest coin -- an 1870-s Seated Half -- rolled out of the hole this past weekend.I really could not believe what I had found as this was my first seated coin of any kind and, in fact, my first 1800s coin altogether! After pulling the coin out and filling my hole, I tried to start detecting again (emphasis on the word "tried"), but it was in vain. I mostly detected in aimless circles for the next half hour because I could not keep the coin out of my mind. Anyway, I just wanted to share this quick story and thank White's for building great detectors and for providing the best customer service in the industry! You have a customer for life and a strong advocate for anyone who may ask me what detector they should buy when getting into this great hobby.
