VX3 Helps Return a Lost Ring

02/21/16

With a week's vacation, a storm churning up the beaches I thought this would be a great time to try out my new VX3 on the beach! After some quick planning, I was off to Wrightsville Beach, NC for some fun! As I had kind of expected, the locals had already cleared the beach and all of my hits were at the 6-9 inch depths.

It's too cool to find pennies and quarters that deep at the beach! I left slightly disappointed, but not undaunted as a rain band came in. I used that time to pick up a sand scoop from the local White's dealer. I moved on to Carolina Beach and "suited up" for hunting. Then fate stepped in. I had been on the sand for about 2 minutes when I was approached by a Lifeguard with an excited look in her face and a radio in her hand. "Can you help us please?" she asked. "Someone has lost a ring and you're the only person with a detector we can see." Sure, I said where?"

She pointed to an area that was about a quarter of a mile south. After explaining that they were not allowed to transport non-emergency persons I took a walk. I was met by a young lady who was a bit frantic about the ring flying off and disappearing in the sand. The ring belonged to her boyfriend and they were throwing a football around when it went flying. I told them to relax and show me what direction. After getting directions, I started and ground balanced my VX3, off I went. My first hit was about 5 feet out and I heard a collective gasp behind me when I stopped...pull tab false alarm.

My next hit was loud and "ringing". I scooped the 3 inch deep target and at the bottom of the scoop was the lost silver ring. I turned around to jumping and cheering followed by amazement that it only took less than 2 minutes! I said that's the power of a White's detector! "What do we owe you?" was the next question. I said only a photo of the ring, your group and thanks will do. After the photos, they took of happy that they got the ring back so quickly, I didn't get their names. That's fine just returning the ring made the trip worthwhile. My first new White's detector, first silver ring and first reuniting of a ring and owner. Thank you White's for the firsts and a fine machine to make them happen!
