Today is a beautiful early fall day in New England and this morning I was detecting in a public park in Central Massachusetts that I've been to many times. I started detecting six years ago and really got serious about it in the last 2 years. I was digging the usual clad dimes, pennies, nickels, and quarters. Then all the sudden in the middle of the field I come across what rang up as a 12-46 on the Minelab E-Trac (which I purchased from Kellyco). Thinking it was just another clad quarter I even questioned digging it. Boy am I glad I did!! Thanks to my Garrett pro pointer and my Lesche hand digger I was able to recover the target quickly without damaging it. It is pretty toasted but it is to be expected as it has been in the ground for up to 192 years!!! This 1824 Coronet Liberty Head large cent is my find of the day, find of the week, and quite possibly the find of the year for me. It is both my oldest coin and first large cent I've ever found metal detecting. This hobby is awesome!!
