Product Description

The TW9000 Multi-Frequency Underground Utility Locator is a high-performance tool designed for precise tracing of buried utilities. Equipped with advanced digital signal processing technology, it detects both active and passive magnetic fields, allowing operators to locate utilities with accuracy and efficiency. The TW9000 offers versatile connection methods, including direct connection, coupling clamp, and inductive modes, ensuring adaptability for various utility types and environments. Its selectable frequencies, ranging from 512 Hz to 82 kHz, allow for customized depth detection, and its rechargeable battery system ensures extended field operation with automatic power-saving features. The rugged design and compliance with IP64 and IP54 standards make it suitable for tough conditions, providing long-lasting reliability for professional use.

Modes:

- Peak & Null: Use this automated mode for most standard underground utility locating scenarios.

- Wide Peak: Use for lateral lines far from the connection point or for deeply buried utilities.

- Narrow Peak: Use for congested utilities.

- Null: Use for utilities with low field-shape distortion.

- Sonde: Use with sondes to trace conduit, pipe and drain locations and their blockages.

- Passive Power: Use for utilities that are energized by AC power currents. This mode does not operate with the Transmitter’s power source.

Frequencies:

- 512 Hz is recommended for long-distance tracing and deep utility detection, with minimal signal bleed-off.

- 8.125 kHz offers balanced tracing for moderate distances, suitable for general-purpose locating.

- 33.025 kHz is useful for tracing shorter distances, particularly in congested areas to avoid signal coupling into nearby objects.

- 82.175 kHz is ideal for short-distance tracing and helps in cases where utilities have insulated joints, improving conduction through capacitance.

Purpose: Utility Locating, Cable Detection, Pipe Locating, Sonde Tracking, Passive Power Detection

    • For 82.175KHz, power is set to 0.95W and is not selectable by the user.
  • Auto Power Down:
To conserve battery life, an auto power down timer will turn the Transmitter off after a period of time. The timer may be set from 5 minutes to 9 hours 15 minutes. The timer function may be turned off and on by the user.

  • Stray Voltage Output Protection:
Transmitter senses stray 50/60Hz voltages above 25V on the output. If the Transmitter is operating and 50/60Hz voltages above 25V are sensed, the Transmitter output will turn off automatically.

Transmitter Operating Modes

  • Direct Connection:
The direct connection accessory red lead is connected to the utility and the black lead is connected to a ground rod inserted into the ground and energized by the transmitter.

  • Coupling Clamp Connection:
The Coupling Clamp accessory is clamped around the pipe or cable. The clamp magnetically induces a signal into the utility without electrical connection to the utility.

  • Inductive Connection:
The Transmitter’s internal antenna radiates a magnetic field that energizes the utility.

Receiver Operating Modes

  • Peak & Null Mode: Receiver gain adjusts automatically for peak audio pitch when directly over a utility.
  • Wide Peak Mode: Useful for detecting utilities from far lateral distances or utilities that are deeply buried.
  • Narrow Peak Mode: Useful when tracing in areas congested with multiple utilities.
  • Null Mode: Useful for determining the location of buried utilities having low field shape distortion.
  • Passive Power Mode: Trace buried utilities that are passively energized by AC power currents.
  • Sonde Mode: Detect sondes and measure sonde depth.
